SHERI THIBEAU: REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST RED DEER
Insightful therapy that meets you where you are
For teens, adults, and couples who want a safe space to explore their thoughts, sensation, and emotions
How I Work
I take a direct, down-to-earth approach to therapy.
I pay attention to patterns and I name what I notice when something doesn’t seem to be helping you anymore. Not to judge, but to help you see things more clearly.
I aim to balance support and challenge.
That means you’ll be met with care and understanding, while also being gently encouraged to look at things you might normally avoid. We go at a pace that feels right for you, so sessions don’t feel overwhelming or rushed.
I work with both thoughts and physical responses.
Because what we experience emotionally often shows up in the body, too. Sometimes that means slowing things down, noticing what’s happening in the moment, and learning how to respond with more flexibility rather than feeling stuck in the same reactions.
Most importantly, therapy with me is collaborative.
You won’t be told what to do or be pushed before you’re ready. We’ll work together to make sense of what’s happening for you and figure out what kind of change feels possible right now.
Who I tend to work well with
You might find working with me helpful if you’re looking to understand yourself and your relationships more clearly, and want to move beyond having the same conversations without real change.
In my work with individuals, we often look at what’s keeping you feeling stuck and what’s shifting in your life right now. Together, we focus on helping you respond differently to challenges and develop a steadier sense of grounding in yourself.
I also work with couples who feel disconnected or caught in repeating patterns. This work can involve repairing trust, improving communication, or finding a way forward when the relationship no longer feels straightforward.
Conversations, but with purpose
When it comes to what a session with me is like, you can expect that we’ll talk about what’s been coming up for you and where things feel stuck. I’ll ask questions, reflect patterns I’m noticing and help slow things down so we can understand what’s really happening, not just react to it.
I’m an active participant in the room. I’ll offer insights and challenges when it’s helpful, while still making sure the pace feels manageable and supportive.
Over time, many clients notice they feel more aware of their emotional responses, less reactive and more confident in how they handle relationships and everyday life.
Training and professional background
My work is grounded in many years of hands-on experience and advanced training in psychology. For more than 18 years, I’ve focused on how people grow and change—through their emotions, their relationships and the way their bodies respond to stress and connection.
Alongside my doctoral training, I’ve completed additional training in couples therapy and trauma-informed care. My work is informed by neuroscience and attachment research, which helps people understand their reactions instead of feeling confused or “broken” by them.
Ongoing learning is an important part of how I work. Through continued training, I make sure my approach stays ethical, flexible and focused on the person sitting in front of me.

Outside of the therapy room
I’m someone who values connection, learning and taking care of both body and mind. I spend a lot of time with my family and furry companions, and I’m happiest when I’m outdoors—especially near the mountains or the ocean.
I’m naturally curious and love learning, whether that’s through ongoing professional training or exploring something new for the joy of it (most recently, learning to play the guitar and handpan). I read widely, listen to podcasts, and use movement, yoga and daily meditation as ways to stay grounded.
Those practices aren’t separate from my work—they shape how I show up. I believe change happens when we pay attention to and take care of ourselves. Therapy, like life, works best when it’s approached with patience, humour and compassion.
My Perfect Day
Starts with a delectable homemade latte, includes amazing fresh food, time out in nature, a hot tub, a great book and laughs with my favourite people. And maybe some chocolate while binge watching a favourite show to round things off.
When you’re ready
Finding the right therapist matters. If you’re curious about working together, you’re welcome to explore the services I offer or reach out with questions. There’s no obligation to commit. Sometimes the first step is simply a conversation to see whether it feels like a good fit.
If and when you’re ready, support is here.
