INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING IN BOTH EDMONTON AND RED DEER
Support for when life
feels heavy
Calm, compassionate therapy in Red Deer and Edmonton for adults who are tired of pretending everything is “fine”.
If…
… you’re feeling like something’s off, but you can’t quite explain it
…things look fine on the outside, but you’re feeling worn down, unsettled or not quite yourself
…you’ve been telling yourself you should be able to handle this, but it doesn’t feel that simple
Individual counselling in Red Deer can offer a supportive place to talk things through and begin figuring out what you need.
There’s no right way to do
counselling
If you’ve never had counselling before, it’s easy to assume it needs to happen a certain way or that you should know what to talk about. But that’s not how it works here.
Individual counselling sessions don’t follow a fixed format. You don’t need the right words, a clear goal or even a plan. Not every session needs to be intense or emotional to be worthwhile. Sometimes it’s simply a conversation—a place to talk things through, slow things down and start making sense of what’s been building up.
There’s no expectation that you know where to start. We’ll figure that out together.
You don’t have to do this on
your own
Some people worry that counselling means talking to a silent person and being left to figure everything out on their own. That’s not the experience we aim to offer.
Sessions are collaborative and guided. Alongside listening, your therapist may ask questions and offer perspective to help you see things more clearly. At times, this might include gently challenging ways of thinking that no longer feel helpful.
Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, low mood, past experiences or ongoing stress, the focus is on understanding what’s happening beneath the surface and supporting you as you work through it.
Taking things at a pace
that works for you
Everyone’s experience of therapy is different. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and no set timeline.
What you focus on in therapy may change over time. Goals can shift and life happens. The pace of sessions may need to adjust along the way. Our work together is flexible and responsive, shaped by what’s going on in your life at the time.
We’ll continue to check in and adapt as needed, working together in a way that feels supportive and manageable.
What change can look like over time
Everyone’s experience of therapy is different, and change doesn’t happen all at once. Over time, individual counselling may help you:
01
Better understand your emotional responses and patterns
02
Feel more grounded and less reactive in day-to-day situations
03
Gain clarity around what’s been weighing on you
04
Set clearer boundaries that you can comfortably maintain
05
Develop a kinder, more supportive relationship with yourself
You might be wondering
1. What happens in the first session?
The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. We’ll go over confidentiality and consent, talk about what’s brought you in, and start to get a sense of what support might be helpful.
There’s no pressure to share everything straight away. The goal is to help you feel comfortable and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
2. Do I need to know what I want to talk about before I start?
Not at all.
A lot of people come to counselling because something feels off, but they can’t quite explain why. You don’t need clear goals or the right words—figuring that out can be part of the process.
3. How long is an individual counselling session?
Individual counselling sessions are usually 50 minutes. If something different is needed, this can be discussed with your therapist.
4. How many sessions will I need?
There’s no set number, it really depends on the person.
Some people come for a short period of time, others stay longer, and some return to counselling when new things come up in their life. This is something you’ll check in about together as you go.
5. Is what I talk about in therapy private?
Yes. What you share in counselling is confidential and your privacy is taken seriously.
There are a few limits related to safety, and your therapist will explain these clearly in your first session so you know exactly what to expect.
6. Do you offer in-person and online counselling?
Yes. We offer both in-person counselling at our Red Deer office and secure online counselling. Some people prefer meeting face-to-face, while others find online sessions more accessible or comfortable. We’re happy to talk through the options with you and help you decide what feels like the best fit.
